Morning Barre and Sunday Brunch

I am honored and excited to announce that I will be teaching a 30 minute barre sequence and 15 minutes of deep stretching and yoga as a prelude to The Avant-Garden’s Sunday Brunch Party Series this Sunday.  Hosted by the creator of The Avant-Garden herself, please join Sara and I for two of my favorite things: barre and brunch!

When Sara first asked me to teach as part of her brunch, I was so excited.  As I started to plan for the weekend ahead, I realized there will be so many health benefits to this fun-filled day.

While morning work-outs may be a drag, this is a great way to burn calories all day long.  Barre is a dance-inspired workout with short bursts of strength training using your own body weight as well as plenty of heated core work.  These types of exercises get your metabolic rate up, which helps you to burn calories during class but also throughout the day.  This means that when you’re enjoying our delicious brunch treats, you will continue to benefit from this great workout.

We will slow WAY down for the last 15 minutes and focus on deep stretching and poses inspired by both pilates and yoga.  Let’s be honest, this is something we could all do more of.  Recent research states that increased stress levels lead to increased fat retention.  Therefore, these calmer, slower movements which improve our mental state are just as important as your favorite butt-kicking workouts.  Other benefits include increased flexibility, blood flow and efficient muscle movement.

Finally, research shows us that isolation is more deadly than smoking cigarettes.  These monthly Avant-Garden Brunch Parties are a great way to be a part of a healthy community and catch up with friends.  I’m excited to see how The Avant-Garden continues to foster a sense of community through the internet and also through these amazing and fun events.

Please be sure to join us this Sunday, December 11, at Sara and Matt’s home for a healthy and fun-filled morning of barre, stretching and healthy food.  Can’t wait to see you there!
